Orange County Birth Doula Support

Steady support, from pregnancy into postpartum

Steady, one-to-one care from pregnancy through birth and into the first postpartum days — so you can feel prepared, supported, and part of the decisions as your birth unfolds.

You do not need someone to promise you a perfect birth.

You can be excited about birth and still have questions about how contractions will feel, how decisions will be made at 3 a.m., or what happens if things shift and you're suddenly unsure what to do next.

You need someone who knows you, helps you prepare, and stays steady when things become intense or uncertain. That is the kind of support I aim to be.

Before birth

Walk in already known

Our prenatal time is where we turn questions into preparation. We talk through your preferences, common scenarios, informed consent, comfort measures and positions, breathing and relaxation techniques, and the role you want your partner or support person to have.

The goal is not to predict every turn. It is for labor to begin with a relationship already built, tools already practiced, and fewer things feeling completely unfamiliar.

During labor

A steady person in your corner

Once I join you, my attention is on what you need physically and emotionally in that moment: massage and counterpressure, movement and position ideas, breathing and grounding, rest and hydration reminders, creating a calmer environment, and helping you slow down long enough to understand options when a decision feels big.

I do not speak for you or make medical decisions. I help you find the questions, information, and steadiness you need to speak for yourself.

Partner support

Your partner is part of the care

I am not there to replace the person you love. I help them feel more confident and less overwhelmed by showing them comfort techniques, offering ideas, reassuring them when they are unsure, and stepping in when they need food, rest, or a moment to regroup.

They get to spend less energy wondering what they are supposed to do and more energy simply being your partner.

Comfort & environment

A comfort toolkit, used with intention

Depending on your preferences and birth setting, I may bring or use a range of comfort supports.

We choose what actually helps you rather than creating a fixed 'doula setup,' while working within your birth setting's guidelines.

After birth

Care continues at home

I remain with you through the immediate postpartum period, and we reconnect once you are home. Your postpartum visit is a chance to check in on how you are doing, process the birth, talk through feeding or newborn-care questions, and navigate some of the emotional and physical adjustment that comes with early parenthood.

But postpartum support is not only about talking. It may mean caring for your baby while you shower, eat, or rest; helping with light household tasks; practicing newborn care together; offering feeding support within my scope; or simply taking one small thing off your plate. I can also help connect you with lactation, mental health, pelvic floor, pediatric, or other specialized resources when more support is needed.

Sometimes that means questions and conversation. Sometimes it means handing me the baby, closing your eyes, and knowing one small thing is taken care of. My goal is to help create a calmer, more supported transition so you have more room to rest, recover, bond with your baby, and find your footing as a family.

I do not measure a 'good' birth only by how few interventions happened. I care that you were respected, understood what was happening, and had support that stayed with you.

Doula questions

Everything you might be wondering

Any time during pregnancy is a good time to reach out. Earlier gives us more time to prepare together, but I'm happy to connect later in pregnancy if I still have availability.

Yes. I support hospital, birth-center, and home births, with care adapted to your birth setting and preferences.

Absolutely. Doula support can be helpful with any birth plan, including inductions and epidurals. My role is to support your choices, not steer you toward a particular kind of birth.

Yes. Birth doula support can still be meaningful with a planned or unexpected cesarean. I can help you prepare beforehand, talk through preferences and questions, support your partner, and help you feel more informed and grounded going into surgery. If hospital policy allows, I may be able to stay with you through parts of the birth. If not, I can still support you before and afterward, including the immediate recovery period when permitted. Even when the mode of birth is already decided, there are still choices to understand, emotions to process, and practical ways to make the experience feel more supported and personal.

I support your partner as part of the team, offering ideas, comfort techniques, reassurance, and breaks when needed so they can focus on being there with you.

Once I join you in labor, I stay through the birth and immediate postpartum period. If labor is especially long, backup support may be used so you continue to have steady care.

Yes. Birth doula support is available in English, Spanish, and French.

It can be. Medi-Cal covers birth doula care, and I also work with select commercial plans. Coverage varies, so I verify your benefits and tailor your support accordingly.

Maribel is more than just a doula; she is an essential guide, a calming force, and a dedicated advocate who empowers the entire family. I can't recommend her highly enough, especially to partners on the fence about hiring a doula.
